Psychological application to beauty
There is some psychology applied to eating disorders and body image. Eating disorders are caused in the process of regulating hunger and eating. According to the American Psychological Association, "[there are] certain psychological factors and personality traits [that] may predispose developing eating disorders." such factors including emotions and perceptions of having low self esteem, feeling of hopelessness, a very strong as a fraction with the way one looks. These factors are often battling with conforming with society vs. accepting oneself. The American Psychological Association states that, "People with anorexia tend to be perfectionist...while people with bulimia are often impulsive" This is true because anorexics want to have the ideal body and want to be perfect. Bulimics do acts and behave in a secretive manner; such as eating impulsively. The Mental Health America informs that, [eating disorders] has multiple factors of social cultural, psychological, and biological factors." Some of the social cultural factors are already mentioned, but some of the biological factors include genetic predisposition to eating disorders, depression and anxiety, deficiency or excess of certain brain chemicals and neurotransmitters, especially serotonin, and certain personality styles. For example, obsessive compulsive personality types. The long term effects can lead to malnutrition, insomnia, dry hair and skin, chronic fatigue, ulcers, low blood pressure, anemia, and even death. Treatments for eating disorders are available. Most involved treatments are individual therapy and family therapy. These therapies often involve the support of family and friends. The field of psychology is very important to humanity because without psychology people wouldn't understand how and why people behave the way they do. There would be no explanation for everything humans do even unconsciously. Psychology can help to better the world by applying these concepts to one's own life. Doctors and psychologists can hope people with the knowledge of psychology. AP psychology amazed me because there are many aspects of human behavior that I never knew. Psychology is a field that I am very passionate about and I am glad I took AP Psychology this year.

Body image an unrealistic view one creates in their own mind. Creating this type of unrealistic problem can hurt our everyday emotions, moods, and our early experiences. Yet this will lead girls to having eating disorders and then being unable to control them, they will be the ones controlling. Building a psychological view to a topic like this can be challenging but may do not realize that there is being a lot to be done and there process to building the psychological view and then a treatment to help and take them away. There is many ways to connect body image and eating disorders with psychology but the best ways to explain their connection is by social cognition, and social influence. Many psychologist would say that social cognition is a best way to start and understand the psychological view of body image and eating disorders. When looking into social cognition there is plenty of social topics such as conformity. The way this is seen in body image is that many of these young girls are not satisfied with their normal body weight and they don't realize that a girl from ages 8 to 14 are supposed to gain 40 pounds because they are developing. This looks into social influence and the way we young girls are being pressured by social media to be someone they are not, not just physically but mentally as well. Social influence gives us a perspectives from the people that tend to pressure the young women and the way they are being targeted. “Only 12% of women aged 50 and over report satisfaction with their body size. That means that 88% of women prefer to be a different body size than the one that they currently inhabit” (Canason 2013). This means that there is more young women worrying about the size of clothing they wear and that nothing is being done because since there is a majority of girls that are at a higher risk of being around social media. Being exposed to social influence is an everyday thing as well as social media but both can be limited and they are a good start because if it keeps going on like it is now and have a 42% of third graders and 81% of 10 year old girls worrying about how they look to other is going to lead to the three main eating disorders which are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Girls with anorexia nervosa and bulimia tend to be perfectionist because they want to be the perfect girl any person can look up to. They want the perfect 0 size body and the perfect hair color, eye color and this can take them to taking extreme measurements.
