Why let the U.S control your beauty?
Body image has been affecting many American teenage girls. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, “In the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from clinically significant eating disorder". This means that this issue is very alarming through the U.S and should get attention. It is also stated that “40 to 60% of elementary school girls are concerned about their weight or about becoming too fat”. If this is already a concern at an early age then this concerns, then this can carry on through their life. According to the article entitled "Eating Disorders", “Approximately 40 percent of American report being or having been on a diet to lose weight” (Eating Disorder, 2010). This means that American girls are concerned about their body image. This is because media depicts the ideal American women to be thin to be considered beautiful. The media accustoms females to be extreme standards of what is 'beauty'. Most women are trying to achieve impossible standards of beauty by dieting and exercising excessively. when people see the ideal tossed in models in magazines TVs runways and commercial one feels insecure about oneself in feels pressured to feel beautiful. In a research summary, findings on body image titled "Mirror Mirror", "Up to 8 of 10 women would be satisfied with their reflection and more than have me see a distorted image" (Fox, K., 1997). To help people with this issue there are many organization therapy, and groups that can help people with eating disorders.

Thinking globally and acting locally is understanding the issue and being passionate about and letting people know why it is important to know about it. It also means to think about solutions, actions we can do and are realistic and that we are able to carry out into the outside world meaning the place where we live in and where we spend our days. It means that the action we plan to do is able to carry out into other parts of the world and that it able to be carried out by other people like myself. The action that gets carried out is supposed to start of in a place that we know and well that we are able to carry it out and that we familiarize with because we need to see the change, the reactions, and the results of the action. Acting locally is starting of the action in the place you live in but knowing that the action will make a difference to people and having in mind that soon that action will change others once it gets carried out by someone else or by yourself. Body image is a big issue but most do not realize it because they think is a normal thing but in reality its not it hurting many people. Activist are people who want to help who want to make a difference and that are willing to go out of the normal to succeed for the change and obtain the best results. Activist like Tess Munster uses social media to disrupt conceptions of beauty. Munster is also the creator of the successful hashtag #EffYourBeautyStandards. Her self and other body image activist have found a way to show and prove that no matter what size, body shape or any other factor determines ones beauty. They have decided to show that beauty come in many different sizes and not just that but since media is a big part of the issue they decided to target the issue by what it may be causing it. Body image is similar yet so different to other kinds of issues that are happening around us. Most people do not realize its a big issue like others. Other issues are noticeable as they come out and are around us on a daily basis. People think its normal for a woman or a teenage girl to care about her body image but let me tell you that its not the case because one thing is to take care of your body and be fit and another to be starving yourself, and well just in obsessing in weight lost. Many people do not realize media and eating disorders relate to body image problems. It may not always be the case but there is a majority of women and teenage girls who suffer from it and they don’t have someone to go up to when they don’t know what to do. Other issues may be easier to approach but body image is hard because it's everywhere, movies, t.v shows, commercials, and even advertisements. It’s everywhere and it gets harder to deal with but there is a way to approach it and it may take some time but it can get there and it will open people's eyes like it has to couple people.
